Modular wall panels in handmade eco cork material
Winner of 2024 Quercus Suber design competition
The modules introduce a new color palette and surface treatment for cork, developed through a mechanical, cold, and passive transformation process that minimizes energy use and avoids chemicals. Liège Junqué byproducts are repurposed as the primary material, while added pine sawdust gradually lightens the cork, and ebonized cork particles deepen it into rich shades of gray.
Natural starch glue binds the materials, and textures are imprinted during mechanical pressing. This subtle relief animates color perception with shifting light angles, creates a cohesive visual rhythm across modules, and helps diffuse sound—enhancing cork’s inherent acoustic properties.
Each module’s shape invites dynamic arrangements—stripes, clouds, or full surface coverage—offering flexible and expressive design solutions for a wide range of interiors.
